Florida Housing Finance Corporation announces the commencement of the 30-day period for public review and comment of the proposed National Housing Trust Fund Allocation Plan and a public hearing to which all persons are invited.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that collections for 2016 in the new federal National Housing Trust Fund program have provided over $173 million in funding throughout the country. The National Housing Trust Fund is a new federal program that provides funding for affordable housing for Extremely Low Income (ELI) households with incomes at or below 30% of Area Median Income. The State of Florida has been allocated $4.6 million in funding. However, the State of Florida must submit an allocation plan to the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Plan must specify how the funds will be distributed to eligible applicants; the range of activities to be funded, including the estimated amount that will benefit extremely low-income households, and the State’s plans to minimize displacement of persons and to assist any persons displaced as a result of this funding. Governor Rick Scott has designated Florida Housing Finance Corporation to administer NHTF plan development for Florida.

Until July 28th, the public is invited to review and comment on the proposed National Housing Trust Fund Allocation Plan which includes amendments to the State of Florida 5-Year Consolidated Plan and 2016 Annual Action Plan. Among the proposed amendments, includes support for accessible multifamily housing stock for lower income renters, including those with incomes at SSI levels, persons with disabilities and their families, and support an integrated housing approach to allow persons and families that need supportive services to live integrated in their communities.

The public is invited to submit written comments via email to nancy.muller@floridahousing.org or by mail to Nancy Muller, Florida Housing Finance Corporation, 227 N. Bronough St, Suite 5000, Tallahassee FL 32301. The 30-day comment period will conclude with a public hearing on the plan and amendments on July 28, 2016 at 2:30PM to review and accept comments on the proposed Plan and amendments.

The proposed plan and amendments are posted to Florida Housing Finance Corporation’s website.
