Creating a Future for Adults with Autism Supports ROOF with a Generous Donation

When Debby Kays isn’t practicing real estate or tending to her herbs and teas business, she volunteers to support the creation of independent, affordable, safe housing for people with disabilities. Her quest is personal: Debby’s son, Walter, lives in a group home in Tampa because she couldn’t find a home in Southwest Florida that could serve his behavioral needs. Debby is the former Chair of both Adonis Autism and Creating a Future for Adults with Autism. Her transition to being a ROOF Lee Board of Trustees member combines both her personal mission to find safe and independent housing for her own son with autism, with her passion for providing inclusive housing for people with disabilities in the community.

Debby originally joined the ROOF Collier Board of Trustees where she has provided input on the homes that are being created in Immokalee and Naples. She later volunteered to help establish the ROOF Lee Board of Trustees and became one of its first members. Today Debby and her five fellow trustees are helping to plan for ROOF’s first two homes in Lee County.

Creating a Future for Adults with Autism’s support will help ROOF create safe and inclusive housing for individuals like Debby’s son, Walter. Due to generous gifts like this, ROOF is able to create new residential options for individuals who would not otherwise be able to live independently as a result of their disabilities.

You too can help ROOF continue to serve the state of Florida with residential options for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Click here to get started!
