Happy 1st Anniversary Charlotte County ROOF!

Residential Options of Florida (ROOF) is celebrating a very special milestone this month…ROOF’s first anniversary in Charlotte County! One year ago, ROOF acquired its first occupied home in Charlotte County. Built by Charlotte County in 2013, the 4-bedroom, 4-bath house is currently home to 4 residents. Bob Hebert, retired Charlotte County Housing Manager, had a vision that was shared by others in the county, namely to create a fully accessible rental home that would be affordable for people with disabilities with extremely low incomes. The Lakeshore home was designed to be fully accessible according to ADA Standards and rents were set at an extremely low rate. To carry forward Bob’s vision, the home was conveyed to ROOF Housing Trust in July 2018 so that it would remain affordable and accessible in perpetuity for residents with disabilities. The single-story home has served as a peaceful sanctuary for all 4 residents and has provided a safe space that encourages growth and independence.

Staff from Advanced Options plays a critical role in the success of this home. Their staff provide personal supports and supported living coaching services for the residents. They help residents with preparing meals, housekeeping, paying bills, and making medical appointments, among many other important duties. In short, their support allows residents to live independently in the community.

ROOF values Charlotte County and Advanced Options as essential partners, and we look forward to working together in the coming years to meet the community need for more homes like Lakeshore.
