Berneitha K. McNair

Berneitha K. McNair,
Executive Director

Berneitha K. McNair is staffed as the Executive Director of the Residential Options of Florida (ROOF).  McNair recently served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Berneitha McNair Consulting. She is also the previous Executive Director of the Northeast Florida Community Action Agency located in Jacksonville, Florida and former of Board Chair of the Florida Association for Community Action.

McNair has more than 20 years of executive and management level experience at two multi-million-dollar nonprofit agencies. Since 1997, McNair has dedicated her entire professional career to helping disadvantaged individuals and families have an enhanced quality of life.  She is a results-oriented, visionary leader who is skilled in fighting poverty, helping individuals become self-sufficient, and developing affordable housing.

McNair’s nonprofit qualifications include the following:

  • Implementing strategic plans;
  • Working successfully with boards of directors;
  • Managing local, state and federal contracts;
  • Overseeing multi-million dollar budgets;
  • Designing and implementing innovative programs;
  • Supervising offices in a multi-county service area; and
  • Establishing mutually beneficial partnerships with external stakeholders.

Additionally, McNair has direct experience in leading and managing housing programs such as the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP), Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME), Housing Preservation Grant (HPG), Low-Income Workforce Housing Program, Mississippi Home Restoration Program, and Weatherization Assistance Program.

McNair has trained agencies and individuals who reside in more than twenty-five (25) states. Training topics included strategic planning, leadership, marketing and branding, nonprofit management, board governance, effective communication, team building, grant writing, conflict resolution, and case management.  She has also facilitated several sessions for state and regional associations.  McNair was recognized by the Florida Association for Community Action in May 2018 for her visionary leadership.

McNair has a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communication. She is also a graduate of the Northeast Florida Regional Council’s Leadership Academy. McNair is the author of two books: Grant Writing That Works:  Confessions of a Nonprofit Chief Executive and D.O.P.E. Leadership:  Success is in the Style which is the introduction of the new leadership style that she developed.
