Advocacy

ROOF is dedicated to advocating for housing options that allow individuals with disabilities to live in inclusive settings in the community of their choice. The ROOF Board of Directors establishes priorities for advocacy work with input from the ROOF Advisory Council and the ROOF Advocacy Work Group. Our priorities for advoacy for this year are listed below:

Goal: Advocate for inclusionary housing opportunities that meet the needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Advocate for increased availability in the market of inclusionary housing and advocate for policies supportive of and permanent funding sources for inclusionary housing and related support services.
  • Make individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities their own best advocates by providing them with and educating them on how to use tools to participate effectively in local community housing planning activities.
  • Educate housing professionals on what is meant by “accessibility” and how to meet the needs of tenants, homeowners and homebuyers with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Advocate for the use all of Florida’s housing trust fund monies for Florida’s affordable housing programs.
